Fifth Toxicologic Pathology Workshop

Conducted by IBTP at Hotel President, Vadodara on 14 and 15 September, 2013

Report:

5th National Workshop on Toxicologic Pathology was conducted by IBTP at Hotel President, Vadodara on 14-15 September, 2013. Workshop was inaugurated by Dr. B. Suresh, Professor, Dept. of Zoology, MS University, Vadodara. Dr. Madhav Marathe and Dr. Venkatesha Udupa gave welcome address and introduction about the workshop to participants. Workshop was attended by 48 participants.

Dr. Peter Mann broached up technical session on toxicologic pathology of respiratory system of rodents followed by Dr. Prashant Pansare (in place of Dr. Vyas M Shingatgeri), Dr. D Kadam and Dr. M R Marathe on day 1 of workshop who covered topics on histopathology report preparation, spontaneous tumors in beagle dogs and inhalation toxicology studies, respectively. On day 2, Dr. K.S. Prajapati delivered lecture on toxicologic pathology of hematopoietic system followed by Dr. Venkatesha Udupa, Dr. Geeta Nirody and Dr. Satish Panchal on Risk assessment of Liver enlargement and consideration of liver injury markers in toxicologic pathology, gastrointestinal system and common tumors in rodents, respectively. All lectures were followed by glass slide examination and interaction with speakers.

Dr. Srinivas S. Rao, Chief, Laboratory Animal Medicine, Vaccine Research Center, NIAID/NIH lectured on ” From domestic animal pathology to laboratory animal pathology: Perspectives on the changes relevant to the Biopharma surge” at Bangalore Veterinary College on 10th March 2008. The lecture included gross pathology images from several domestic animal pathology (large and small animals) and laboratory animal pathology, especially as they are becoming more relevant to biopharmas, CROs, academia and research institutes

Second Technical Seminar
Second Technical Seminar by Dr. Shashi K. Ramaiah was organized at Veterinary College Bangalore, on January 6, 2007. Dr. Shashi K. Ramaiah, Assistant Professor, Faculties of Pathobiology and Toxicology, Texas A&M University delivered lecture on Clinical Pathology Approaches to detecting liver toxicity in toxicology studies and Proteomics applications in liver toxicology for identification of biomarkers. Dr. Shashi K. Ramaiah who served as Continuing Education Chair of the Society of Toxicologic Pathology (STP) and is actively working towards collaboration between STP and STPI to run modular courses in toxicologic pathology in India.
